Green Dress

Updated: May 26, 2019

This dress is from the May 2019 Burda Style magazine, model 108. It was love at first sight, the fabric, the silhouette and the easyness of the pattern got my attention. I love it contours the body but is it not too tight. It is one of those outfits that goes from office to happy hour in seconds. Change jewelry or shoes, add a belt or not and it will look completely different. I used a green textured jersey fabric I found in a local store in Rochester, Sew Creative, visit them if you are in town.

Let’s talk about this pattern, it has only four pattern pieces, who doesn’t like a fast, easy project??!! Drafting was very easy, I cut size 40 with 5/8” seam allowance. I usually cut 38, but I wanted the dress to fit loose. And, yeah, I have to admit that I’ve gained a few pounds and rather have a bigger dress than smaller...right?! On top of that I serged at 1/4” seam allowance, again, just to make sure it is not too small. You would ask, but why don’t you measure yourself or make a muslin version? Well, I do measure myself, but for some reason it still fits weird sometimes. And the muslin... ugh I just don’t have too much time to sew lately so I just go straight to the fabric I want to use. If it doesn’t fit me then I will sell it or something haha.

I hand sewed the hem, the side slits and the armholes. I didn’t have the same color thread to coverstitch and I thought the dress looked too fancy to use a serged hem. I am very happy with the results. It was an easy sew and I am obsessed with this dress now. The color, the fabric, the pattern, all are a perfect combination. I cannot wait to make more of these and a few hacks I‘ve been thinking of.

Remember...send me a message if you would like to learn how to sew the burda style!
